Dr. Maroro Zinyemba

Dr. Maroro Zinyemba is a leader who believes in movement, in education, in community, and quite literally on the trails. When she’s not serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Skills and Foundational Learning (FSFL) at NorQuest College, you’ll likely find her urban hiking across Edmonton or trekking 10 km with SistaWalkYEG, a powerhouse group of women who walk, laugh, and lift each other up every week.
In her role as dean, Maroro leads one of the most diverse and impactful faculties in Alberta. FSFL is home to programs that welcome and empower thousands of learners each year — including newcomers, Indigenous learners, and adults returning to education. Her portfolio spans Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), English as an Additional Language (EAL/ESL), Settlement Studies, Academic Upgrading, Teaching English as an Additional Language, and a wide range of Integrated Employment Training programs. Thousands of learners have been supported this year alone through programs under her leadership.
Maroro’s work is grounded in the belief that education is a shared responsibility. She champions cross‑institutional collaboration and community partnerships that ensure learners receive the support, dignity, and opportunity they deserve. Her professional interests — and her research — explore leadership, equity, diversity, inclusion, anti‑racism, and the lived experiences of learners in post‑secondary spaces.
Whether she’s guiding a faculty, facilitating conversations on equity, or hiking alongside a circle of strong women, Maroro brings the same spirit: curiosity, courage, and a commitment to helping people rise.
